Hey Madison Humphreys Center! Do we have any Yoga fans out there? If there are, how many of you like to go alone or in a group? If group yoga is for you, how about considering taking a member of your family with you? You know, of the doggy variety? Slightly confused? Read on.

Doga” – Yoga for dogs, is sweeping the nation. It’s a great way for you to exercise with your pet. Now, I don’t really see your furry friends perfecting any positions other than the downward and upward dog, but it’s a great way for you to socialize with others and let your dogs socialize with other doggie fitness nuts. In class, owners would also learn how to give their pets doggy massages. The class is mostly for the people and a little bit of the yoga for the dogs. There’s only so much you can do with dogs because they come in so many different sizes and temperaments.

At the time of writing, I can’t find a “doga” class in Memphis, but there are plenty of other ways to socialize and exercise with your dog. You can take your pooch to various dog parks including the one at Shelby Farms, or the new one they just opened at at 2599 Avery Avenue, behind the Board of Education, which is also off leash.

The concept of doggie yoga is very interesting. Now, my dog wouldn’t be able to partake because he has the attention span of a fly, but I’m sure other dogs will have a ball. As soon as I get word of classes in the Memphis area, I’ll be sure to let you know!

Is this your first time hearing of this new craze?

Want directions to the new dog park? Here you are!

Head southeast on N Humphreys Blvd. Take the 1st right onto Walnut Grove Rd. Take the 1st right onto Walnut Grove Rd. Turn left at S Hollywood St. Take the 1st left onto Avery Ave. The dog park will be on your right.
